JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's basketball wins 83-76 over Bethel University Saturday afternoon at Fred DeLay Gymnasium/David Blackstock Court.
Union led by as many as 18 points, 57-39, just before halftime. Union went into the locker room up 57-42. Bethel got as close as four points late in the game, but Union held off the rally for the win.
The Bulldogs were on fire in the first half, shooting 66 percent from the field, including 75 percent (9-12) from the 3-point line. Union finished the game at 51 percent shooting from the field and 48 percent (13-27) from long range.
Union was led
Tyree Boykin with 18 points on 4-of-7 shooting from long range.
Hunter Vick scored 17 points and
Jeremiah Littlepage added 15 points. Vick led with nine rebounds and seven assists. All nine players for Union that play scored at least three points in the game.
Bethel was led by Mayberry with 19 points and Jon Brown with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Brown and Union have met before as he was a GSC All-Conference player and Freshman of the Year back in 2019 with the GSC foe, University of West Florida.
Up next for Union will be a couple of home games to open the regular season. Union will host the Crossover Classic, playing Tuskegee Friday at 4 p.m. and Lane Saturday at 4 p.m.
