Lady Bulldogs victorious in season opener against Christian Brothers

Jackson, Tenn. - The Union University women's basketball team posted a 65-45 win in the season opener against the Lady Buc's Friday night. Union improved to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the Gulf South Conference – West Division. Christian Brothers dropped to 0-1 on the season and 0-1 in league play. 

Union used a consistent and steady offensive attack all game, scoring 31 points in the first, and then 34 points in the second half. Union led 31-17 at the half. The paint saw a majority of Union's points tonight with 38. The Lady Bulldog's defense provided 19 points off turnovers.
 
With tonight's performance from Lady Bulldogs Senior Center Jalencia Williams, she reached a career milestone of 1,000 points. As of tonight's game, Williams is third in the GSC in points per game, and first in field goal percentage and blocks.

Union was led by Williams with 18 points. Shanique Lucas scored 17, Sadie Knee scored 10 with eight rebounds and five assists. Emily Beard and Sadie Knee both led the team in rebounds with eight. The Lady Bulldogs shot 43 percent from the field, 20 percent (5-25) from 3-point range, and 50 percent (10-20) from the free throw line.  

CBU was led by Brynne Lytle with 15 points and Emily Jones with 10 points. The Lady Buc's shot 21 percent from the field, 15 percent (4-26) from long range, and 93 percent (13-14) from the free throw line. 

Up next for Union will be another home GSC West matchup against the Lady Buc's of Christian Brothers, Saturday, December 12 at 3 p.m.
