Memphis, Tenn. - The Union University men's basketball team posted a 74-70 win in the season opener against the Buc's Friday night. Union improved to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the Gulf South Conference – West Division. Christian Brothers dropped to 0-1 on the season and 0-1 in league play.
Union fell behind in a tightly contested first half, scoring 29 points. The second half was similar in intensity, however Union pushed to go up by three points with only 31 seconds left in the game. With only nine seconds remaining in regulation, Christian Jones of CBU tied the game with a made 3 pointer to turn this one into an overtime thriller. In OT, a back and forth matchup ensued with nine different lead changes. Union came out on top with a 74-70 win after one overtime period. The paint saw a majority of Union's points tonight with 30. The Bulldog's bench provided a huge help with 20 points, and the defense had a great impact with 20 points off of turnovers as well.

Tyree Boykin with 23 points.
Hunter Vick added 14.
Jeremiah Littlepage made a huge impact, scoring 10 points and leading the team with 11 rebounds for a double-double in his first career game. The Bulldogs shot 46 percent from the field, 20 percent (5-25) from 3-point range, and 76 percent (19-25) from the free throw line.
CBU was led by Garrett Golday with 19 points and Aiden Ruthsatz with 13 points. The Buc's shot 45 percent from the field, 9 percent (2-22) from long range, and 71 percent (10-14) from the free throw line.
Up next for Union will be another road GSC West matchup against the Buc's of Christian Brothers, Saturday, December 12 at 2 p.m.
