JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University softball team defeated Christian Brothers University 7-0 in their final game of the series and last game of regular season. The Lady Bulldogs improve to 14-16 in the GSC and 29-23 on the season. The Lady Bucs drop to 2-26 in conference and 11-38 overall.
Harley Bartholomew singled to shortstop to start the bottom of the first inning and then stole second, third and home for Union's first run of the game. Haley Barnette hit an RBI double followed by an RBI single from Sarah Smith. Kaitlyn Kelley hit her 13th home run of the season to tie teammate and GSC home run leader, Barnette. Gabby Morris hit a RBI triple to right center followed by another RBI single from Smith to finish the third inning ahead, 6-0. Barnette's RBI double scored Union's seventh run in the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning Smith doubled to center field to score Union's winning run.
Union had 10 hits on the game with seven RBI. Smith led with three hits in the game and three RBI. Morris (11-15) pitched a complete game earning her first shout out of the season. She tossed five innings giving up three hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.
Up next for Union is the first round of the GSC Championship against No. 2 Alabama Huntsville in Pensacola, Fla. at 12:30 p.m.
