JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University men's basketball team defeated Mississippi College 81-62 at Fred DeLay Gymnasium Saturday evening. Union improved to 10-8 overall and 5-5 in the Gulf South conference. Mississippi College dropped to 4-10 overall and 1-8 in conference play.
Union took an early 16 point lead over MC in the first half. The Choctaws chipped away at Union's lead to bring it within four points at 27-23 with 5:10 left in the half. The teams swapped baskets for the remainder of the half. Union never gave up their lead and went into the locker room ahead 37-32.
A jumper by Mississippi College started the second half to get the Choctaws to within 3-points. Union regained momentum and pushed its lead to double figures, 50-39 with a 13-5 run. The Union lead remained in double figures for the remainder of the game. The Bulldogs extended the lead to as many as 19 points with 8:35 to play and the Bulldogs won by the same margin, 81-62.
Union was led by Terrandus Smith with 19 points and, Samory Gueye with 17 points. Tylandrius Parks added 10 rebounds while Payton Stovall recorded nine rebounds.
Union hit 11 three-pointers and shot 40.7 percent from behind the arc while shooting 51 percent from the field. Union outrebounded MC 39-29.
Mississippi College was led by Dyllan Taylor with 18 points, and Brandon Boston with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
MC shot 31.6 percent from behind the arc while shooting 40.3 percent from the field.
