SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Union University women's basketball teams looks to extend their best season as a member of NCAA D2. The seventh seeded Lady Bulldogs will open play in the NCAA D2 National Quarterfinals Monday, March 19 at 2:30 p.m. central time versus the 2-seed Carson-Newman University.

Both Union (31-3) and Carson-Newman (32-2) are Tennessee Baptist institutions located at opposite ends of the state. The two schools were one time conference foes in the Volunteer State Athletic Conference in the NAIA. Both have since joined NCAA D2. Carson-Newman holds a 6-3 advantage over Union. The last meeting between the two schools was a 68-66 win for Carson-Newman at Oman Arena in 1992.

Carson-Newman was ranked sixth in the latest WBCA Coaches' Poll, while Union was ranked 14th.

Union earned their way to the Elite Eight by claiming their first ever NCAA D2 South Region Title. Union is now 5-2 in NCAA National Tournament games, 1-1 in region title games. Union's 31 wins on the season are also a program best since moving to an NCAA schedule in 2012-13. It is the most wins since Union won 35 games in 2011-12, their final NAIA season.

The national semifinals are Wednesday, March 21, with the national finals taking place Friday, March 23. All quarterfinals games (Monday games) can be seen live on the web at the link above. The Semifinals and Finals (ONLY) will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network, requiring a cable or satellite subscription with a login to view. Games are available on CBS Sports Network on TV or at www.cbssports.com/cbs-sports-network. Again, a subscription is required to view semifinal and final games.
