JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's basketball team defeated Freed-Hardeman University 74-69 in the final exhibition game of the year for the Bulldogs.
 
Tyree Boykin opened the game for Union with a quick three-point play, but Freed-Hardeman took the lead with a pair of layups. Samory Gueye gave Union the lead again with two made free throws. The Bulldogs kept this lead the rest of the first half.  JC Clausi made a three-pointer with 8:40 left in the first have to give the Bulldogs their largest lead of the first half at 21-13. FHU chipped away, but Union held a 37-33 lead at the break.
 
Boykin opened the second half with two made free throws, making the score 39-33. The Lion's responded with an 8-0 run started by a three-pointer from John Musselwhite. giving Freed-Hardeman a one point lead. 
 
The lead switched again after a three-point play by Boykin, but Musselwhite responded with a three-pointer for the Lions to give the lead. Starting at the 14:40 mark, the Bulldogs went on a 8-2 and regained a 50-46 lead. Union held on to this lead the rest of the game. The largest lead of the game, 11,  came for the Bulldogs with 3:23 left to play with a jumper made by Payton Stovall. The final score was 74-67. 
 
Union was led by Boykin with 19 points, Clausi with 17, and Smith with 14. Stovall led with three assists, and Tylandrius led with eight rebounds. The Bulldogs shot 47 percent from the field, 20 percent (4-20) from long range, and 70 percent (21-30) from the foul line. 
 
Freed-Hardeman was led by Musslewhite and Francis Agbata with 16 points a piece. Juwan Hampton led in rebounds with seven. The Lions were 43 percent from the field, 25 percent (4-16) from three-point range, and 73 percent (11-15) from the foul line.
