MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Union University men's soccer team posted a 3-1 win at the University of Montevallo Saturday afternoon. Union improved to 5-8-3 on the season and 3-6-2 in the Gulf South Conference. Montevallo dropped to 5-11 overall and 4-7 in league play.
Union's season came to an end with this game, not able to advance to the GSC Tournament. However, the young Union team closed out the season going 5-3-2 in the last 10 matches, including a four-match winning streak to close the season. In the four-match winning streak, Union outscored its opponents 15-3.

Steven Cox is excited about the future for this young team. "It was great to finish the season well," Cox said. "I am proud of our seniors. We started such a new young group and it took us some time to get going. We suffered a few key injuries in the start of the season. We have a large core of returning players coming back. We have laid a very good foundation and I am looking forward to the future of our program."
Union wasted no time in taking control of the match as freshman
Gavin Scott beat the keeper off the dribble in the sixth minute of play. It was Scott again finding the back of the net, this time in the 38th minute of play.
Andre Silva assisted the goal that gave Union the 2-0 lead. Then just before half in the 41st minute, Montevallo's Liam Moore (Filippo Peri, assist) cut the Union lead in half.
Despite Union's 2-1 lead, Montevallo outshot the Bulldogs 14-5 in the first half.
The second half was again controlled by Montevallo, leading Union 11-7 in shots. However, the score remained 2-1 in favor of Union until the 89th minute. Union senior
Zach Boothe notched his first goal of the season is his final collegiate match to set the final score at 3-1.
Montevallo led Union 25-12 in shots, including 10-5 in shots on goal. The Falcons also led in corner kicks, 9-6, and fouls, 10-8.

James Jackson, Scott, and Silva with three shots each. Boothe's one shot was the only other Bulldog to fire off an attempt.
Euan Morton recorded nine saves in goal during his 90 minutes of work.
