LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Union University men lost 85-56 at the University of West Alabama Thursday night. Union dropped to 8-10 overall and 2-8 in the Gulf South Conference. West Alabama improved to 13-5 on the season and 7-3 in league play.
Union has played three straight games versus the GSC's No. 1, 2, 3 teams. West Florida and Valdosta State are tied for first with 8-1 records, while West Alabama is in third place at 7-3.
West Alabama took charge early and never trailed in the game. The Tigers scored the first five points and after six minutes of play, led by double figures, 17-7. Union cut the deficit back to single digits twice more. However, West Alabama pushed the lead to double figures for good at 23-12 with 10:17 left in the half. The Tigers led by as many as 23 points in the first half, before taking a 45-26 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, West Alabama continue to control the game. Union got as close as 16 points early in the second half. The Tigers hit a late 3-pointer to extend their lead to the largest of the game with the final of 85-56.
Union was led by Tyree Boykin with 14 points. KC Goodwin added 10 points and Charlie Wilson grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Union shot 34 percent from the field, 22 percent (6-27) from 3-point range, and 82 percent (14-17) from the free throw line.
West Alabama was led by Eaton with 23 points and Fleming with 11 points. Eleven different players scored in the game for the Tigers. UWA shot 48 percent from the field, 38 percent (10-26) from 3-point range, and 77 percent (17-22) from the free throw line.
