JACKSON, Tenn.- The Union University men's basketball team defeated Freed-Hardeman 83-76 on Saturday night in an exhibition game for Union's homecoming.
The Bulldogs and the Lions battled back and forth from the start of the game. Freed-Hardeman was 63 percent from 3-point range in the first half. Union shot a 48 percent from the field.
At half, Union led Freed-Hardeman 43-40.
In the second half, the Bulldogs and the Lions continued even play. Union's largest lead of nine points was with 28 seconds left in the game. The final score was 83-76.
Union was led by freshman guard, Tyree Boykin with 18 points and two assists. KC Goodwin had 13 points, five assists, and five rebounds, and Nick Velasquez had 12 points and four assists for the Bulldogs.
Union was 46 percent from the field and 40 percent (12-31) from 3-point range.
Freed-Hardeman was led by Simon Francis with 17 points and five rebounds. Marcus Baldwin had 13 points and five assists, and Ehab Eltayeb add 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Lions.
Freed-Hardeman was 42 percent from the field and 47 percent (10-21) from 3-point range.
Up next for Union will be a game on Friday, November 10, at 5:30 p.m. in Memphis, Tennessee, against Spring Hill College at the GSC/SAAC Crossover Classic.
