JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's basketball team defeated Fisk University Thursday night. Union improved to 3-0 on the season, while Fisk University dropped to 6-2.
Union's Nick Velasquez had his second straight game with 23 points and seven 3-pointers. In the first half, he scored 15 of his 23 points on 5-5 from 3-point range.
Charlie Wilson added to Union's early lead in the game with 10 points in the first half. Union never lost the lead, and at one point in the first half, led by as many as 32 points. Union had a 55-24 lead at the half.
The second half Union opened up with back to back 3-point plays by Union's Charlie Wilson and Alex Keel. Union kept a large lead throughout the second half, with the largest margin being 52 points after a jumper by Caleb Ball.
The last four points for Union were unanswered with two layups by Tyree Boykin and Caleb Ball. The final score was 103-58.
Union was lead by Velasquez's 23 points. Boykin also added 20 points, six assists, and five rebounds. Todd Barnes scored 15 points, and Charlie Wilson had another good night with 13 points and five rebounds. Union shot 67 percent from the field and 51 percent (16-31) from long range.
Fisk was lead by Joshua Madison who had 14 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Montreal Nabors scored 11 points and had 5 rebounds. Fisk was 32 percent from the field and 30 percent (4-13) from three-point range.
