MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Union University men's basketball team defeated the Spring Hill College Badgers Friday night 59-54 in the GSC/SIAC Crossover Classic. The classic, hosted by LeMoyne-Owen, features Union and Shorter University from the Gulf South Conference and Spring Hill College and LeMoyne-Owen College from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Spring Hill jumped to an early six point lead on Union. Union took their first lead, 13-12 on a 3-pointer from
Tyree Boykin. Spring Hill regained the lead and held a slim advantage for the remainder of the half. Spring Hill went into the locker room up one point, 32-31.
Charlie Wilson lead with 14 points at the half.
Neither team scored for the first two minutes into the second half. Union's
Alex Keel started the half with a lay up that was answered by two points from Spring Hill, giving Union just their second lead of the game. Union maintained a small lead for the remainder of the half. A three-pointer from
Pedro Da Silva gave the Bulldogs a six point lead, 53-47 with 4:31 left. Union led by as many as seven points, twice in the final four minutes before taking the 59-54 final.
Union was lead by Wilson with 23 points and nine rebounds. Silva added 12 points and
KC Goodwin had nine assists. Union shot 46 percent from the field, 27 percent (4-15) from long range, and 53 percent (9-17) form the free throw line.
Spring Hill College was lead by Brandon Fischer with 13 points. Dwight Harris recorded seven points, four assists and eight rebounds for the Badgers. Spring Hill shot 38 percent from the field, eight percent (1-13) from 3-point range, and 63 percent (5-8) from the free throw line.
