JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University Bulldogs defeated Harding University 2-1 Saturday night at Smith Soccer Complex. The Bulldogs finished their season 4-11-1 overall and 3-8-0 in the Gulf South Conference. Harding finished their season 7-5-3.
Senior night for Union started with Harding University's Matheus Ribeiro scoring on an assist by Abraham Lopze in the 32nd minute. Union was unable to respond to Harding's goal and went into the half down 0-1. Union did edge Harding 8-7 in shots in the first 45 minutes of play.
In the second half, Union again edged Harding 11-10 in shots. But this time Union was able to finish on a pair of shots. In the 74th minute,
William Valencia, assisted by
Andre Silva, put the ball in the back of the net, tying the game 1-1. Union's
Robel Dent scored the game winning goal in the 84th minute on a loose ball that he sent into the top of the goal.
Union had 19 shots to Harding's 17.
Casper Nyberg had nine saves on the game for Union, while Michael Wasson had five saves for Harding.
