ROME, Ga. – The Union University men's basketball posted an 85-71 win at Shorter University Saturday afternoon. The win for Union was their second straight victory and keeps the Bulldogs in GSC Tournament contention.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Union stormed out of the gate with a 10-0 run to start the game, including back-to-back 3-pointers from Tray Boyd to cap the run. Union continued to push and with just under 10 minutes left in the half, a 3-pointer from KC Goodwin put Union up by 24 points, 35-11.
- Union led by as many as 25 points twice in the first half before taking a 53-30 lead into the locker room.
- In the second half, Union maintained control pushing their lead to as many as 27 points, 68-41, with 12:42 left. With 9:19 left, Union still led by 26 points, 71-45. Shorter got to with 14 points, but the Bulldogs stop threat and pushed their lead back to 20 points, 81-61, with two minutes left. Shorter fired in a couple of 3-pointers in the final minutes, outscoring Union 10-4 in the last two minutes to set the final margin of victory for Union at 14 points.
STAT OF THE GAME
The 53 first half points for Union was the third best this season (58 vs. Brewton-Parker, 55 at Alabama-Huntsville). Union shot 54 percent from the field and 56 percent (10-18) from long range in the first 20 minutes.
TEAM STATS
- Union shot 48 percent from the field, 43 percent (13-30) from 3-point range and 83 percent (10-12) from the free throw line.
- Shorter shot 33 percent from the field, 29 percent from behind the arc and 77 percent (13-17) from the charity stripe.
- Union out rebounded Shorter 47-37, and survived 18 turnovers in the game to 12 from Shorter.
PLAYER STATS
- Union was led by Boyd with 23 points including 6-of-13 from 3-point range. Charlie Wilson scored 20 points, including 14 in the second half. Jarad Scott recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Bennett Fuzak added 10 points while Ashanti Day grabbed 12 rebounds.
- Shorter was led by Phil Taylor with 21 points, 14 points below his NCAA DII best 35 points per game. Alijah Bennett scored 12, while Amonte Potter and Damerit Brown scored 11 each.

Union return home Thursday, February 2 from a four-game road trip to take on West Alabama at 8 p.m. Union will play West Georgia at home Saturday at 4 p.m.
