Two former Union men’s basketball players earn Alumni Awards

JACKSON, Tenn. - Jon "Bubba" Hoover and Pierre Valmera earned Union University Alumni awards that were presented at Homecoming this year and recent documented in the Spring 2016 Unionize Magazine. Hoover was named the Outstanding Young Alumnus, while Valmera earned the Distinguished Achievement in Athletics award. 

Union head coach David Niven said, "I'm really proud of the work that Bubba and Pierry have continued to do since graduating from Union.  Both of those guys exemplify the kind of excellence and service that we desire our players to attain after their basketball careers end.  They've each set a great example for all of my players to follow." Niven was the assistant coach during the careers of Hoover and Valmera. Ralph Turner was the head coach for Union at that time. 

Hoover played for Union from 1997-2001. His teams posted a 114-29 overall record with four appearances in the NAIA National Tournament with one quarterfinal appearance. Hoover was a part of two TranSouth Championship teams. Click HERE for more information on Hoover's award.

Valmera played for Union from 2003-07. He was a two-time TranSouth All-Conference player. He helped his team to two TranSouth Championships and four appearances in the NAIA National Tournament, including one quarterfinal appearance. Click HERE for more information on Valmera's award.
