JACKSON, Tennessee- The Union University fell in the rubber game of their Gulf South Conference series with Delta State Sunday afternoon 12-0.
Delta State started off the top of the first inning with a bang leading things off with a triple to deep right center followed by a single for the early 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Ben Pickard launched a ball to deep left field and over the fence to a two run homerun that put the Statesmen up 3-0.
Union held DSU to three runs five innings before things got out of hand. In the top of the sixth, Delta State had back-to-back RBI base hits that drove home three runs followed by a sacrifice fly to put another run on the board and move the score to 7-0. Then in the top of the seventh the Statesmen got an RBI double that drove home two runners and two batters later had another homerun that made the score 12-0. Union got a baserunner in the bottom of the seventh but could not put a run across to avoid the shutout.
Union continues GSC play next weekend hosting Mississippi College on Saturday with a double header starting at 1:00 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
