Union drops final exhibition to Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Union University women's basketball team dropped their final exhibition of the season 93-43 at Vanderbilt on Sunday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Both teams played close in the first quarter, with Union evening the score with the Commodores at 7-7 with 6:11 on the clock following a three from Chelsea Bodiford.
  • The first period featured 22 missed shots between the two teams. The Lady Bulldogs were also called for 10 fouls in the quarter and turned the ball over 10 times. 
  • Jada Perkins opened up the second quarter with a layup and then stole the ball in the Vandy backcourt for another uncontested layup to bring Union within three points, 21-18. 
  • Turnovers plagued the Lady Bulldogs for the remainder of the second half making way for a 21-5 run by Vanderbilt that pushed their lead to 19. The Commodores maintained that lead going into halftime with a 47-28 lead.
  • Vanderbilt took over in the third quarter outscoring Union 31-6 in the period. The lone points for the Lady Bulldogs came from threes from Bodiford and Tiffany Rechis.
  • The Lady Bulldogs kept the score more manageable in the fourth being outscored just 15-9.


 

TEAM STATS
  • Union shot 25% from the field hitting just 14 of 56 shots, and from behind the arc the Lady Bulldogs were 6-for-25.
  • Union finished the game with 24 turnovers and committed 28 fouls.
  • Vanderbilt shot 42% from the field and 33% from behind the arc.



PLAYER STATS
  • Jada Smith led the Lady Bulldogs with nine points while Chelsea Bodiford and Jada Perkins each added six points.
  • Fredi Nielsen led the way in rebounding for Union grabbing 12 boards.
  • Vanderbilt had four players in double figures with Erin Whalen led the way with 21 points.
