JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University women's basketball team took their home opener 102-60 against Martin Methodist College in exhibition.

WHAT HAPPENED

• Union was slow to start out, but Jada Perkins knocked down a three while drawing the foul for the four point. That play started an 18-2 run that put the Lady Bulldogs up 24-10 with three minutes in the first quarter.
• Jada Smith opened up the second quarter scoring five of Union's first seven points in the period pushing the lead to 37-17.
• The Lady Bulldogs kept that pace closing out the first half outscoring Martin Methodist 16-4 over the final four minutes to go into halftime up 53-26.
• Chelsea Bodiford opened up the second half with a three that was followed up a layup and two free throws from Smith to push the lead to 31 points in favor of Union.
• Martin Methodist then opened up a run of their own outscoring Union 12-2 that made the score 62-41.
• Union kept the foot on the gas throughout the fourth quarter outscoring the RedHawks 25-10 in the last ten minutes of the game.

STAT OF THE GAME

• Union had six players in double digits for points in the game.

 TEAM STATS

• Union shot 57.8% from the field going 37-64, 34.8% from behind the arc hitting just 8 of 23 long balls, and 83.3% at the line going 20-24.
• Martin Methodist shot 33.9% going 20-59 in the game and 28.6% from behind the arc and went 12-15 at the line.
• The Lady Bulldogs took the rebounding match up grabbing 41 boards compared to the RedHawks 28.
• Union only had 11 turnovers in the game while Martin Methodist lost the ball 16 times in the game.

PLAYER STATS

• Jada Smith led the game in scoring with 25 points, while Sara Lytle added 17 and  Jada Perkins with 14.
• Fredi Nielsen, Chelsea Bodiford and McKenna Montgomery each added twelve points to the Union total going 13-for-18 from the field.
• Smith and Sara Lytle had the game high in rebounds with seven boards each, as well as assists with four each.
• Martin Methodist was led by Brooklyn Blanchard and Karson Mullens with 13 points each.
