Union volleyball ends season with win over UWG

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University Lady Bulldog volleyball team swept West Georgia in their final match of the season 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 26-24). Before the match Union their four seniors, Hannah Huguley, McKenna Carter, Deja Moorer, and Patsy Decker.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • West Georgia had a slight lead, 5-4, in the first set when Union started to pull away with the help of a 4-0 run. Later in the set, the Lady Bulldogs led 21-15, and was able to shutout the Wolves 25-15 to take a 1-0 match lead. 
  • Play was back and forth in the second set. Tied 18-18, Union was able to score two, but West Georgia fought back for two points of their own to tie the set 20-20. The Lady Bulldogs were able to pullout the second set with a win, 25-22.
  • Again, Union and the Wolves traded punches early in the third set. With the Lady Bulldogs leading 9-7, Union scored four straight points to extend their lead to 13-7. UWG rallied back later in the set with a 4-0 run of their own to get within a point of the Lady Bulldogs, 16-15. In west Georgia's next possession, the Wolves scored three straight to pull ahead by one, 18-17. UWG kept their momentum and led Union 23-20 late in the set, but the Lady Bulldogs came from behind to closeout the third set 26-24. 


STAT OF THE GAME
  • Moorer smashed her 1,000th career kill in the third set to start the 4-0 rally by Union to give them the lead and ultimately the third set win. Moorer will end her career with 1,001 kills, and is the only Union player to reach that feat since entering NCAA DII play in 2012.
 
POSTMATCH STATS
  • Moorer led Union with 12 kills followed by Carter and Abby Schebel with six each. Moorer and Huguley each added three service aces. Carter led the Lady Bulldogs in blocks with four. Huguley also helped Union with 29 assists. Cagle had 14 digs to lead the Lady Bulldogs.
  • Huguley finished her career with 2,329 assists.
  • Carter capped her career with 242 blocks. 
  • West Georgia was led by Faith Pearson with eight kills, Jaida Allen with six blocks, and Devon Dickey with 14 digs.
