JACKSON, Tenn.- The Union University (1-2) men's soccer team got their first win of the 2015 campaign taking down Harding (0-2-1) 2-0 on Friday night.
Â
After starting the season being outscored 9-1 in their first two games, the Bulldogs came out with some intensity in the start of Friday night's contest. Union took an early 1-0 lead only 7 minutes into the game with a free kick just outside the box by
Andre Silva when he netted a shot into the lower left corner of the goal.
Â
The Bulldogs would double that lead in the early minutes of the second half after senior captain
Clayton Martin broke free from the defense on the near sideline sliding a pass across field to
Paul Langford who put it in the back of the goal. Union would hold that score until the final buzzer sealing their first win and shutout of the early season.
Â
Union played outstanding through the whole match outshooting the Bison 19-6 coming from multiple close chances to extend their lead even further. Coach
Clovis Simas attributed the win and stellar play to the opportunity to work together with many of the newcomers arriving just over a week ago.
Â
Union is on the road for their next match and will be taking Oakland City on Sunday, September 13
th, at 3:00 p.m. The Bulldogs will return home Wednesday, September 16, for a non-conference matchup against Gulf South Conference rival Christian Brothers at 7:00 p.m.
