CLINTON, Miss.- The Union University women's basketball team took down Mississippi College 71-52 Saturday afternoon to improve their conference record to 12-3 to lead the Gulf South. The Lady Bulldogs improved to 16-3 overall, while Mississippi College fell to 4-11 in conference and 8-11 on the season.

After a heartbreaking overtime loss at Delta State (Miss.) Thursday night, Union bounced back Saturday at Mississippi College. After a slow start to the game by both teams, the Lady Bulldogs went on a 17-4 run including five three pointers, with
Chelsea Bodiford hitting three of those. Union kept that pace up throughout the rest of the first half to enter the locker room leading 37-17. Union shot 41.4% from the floor and hit seven three pointers in the half.

Union kept adding to their lead in the second half leading by as many as 36 points with 6:06 left in the game. Union was able to provide some much needed rest for their starters as the team cruised to the 71-52 final.

The Lady Bulldogs bolstered a balanced scoring attack with 11 different players scoring on the afternoon, with only two players reaching double digits,
Emily Sissom led with a career high 16 points and
Kelsey Risner added 12. Union shot 43.4% from the field and 37.9% from behind the arc.
Amy Philamlee led the Lady Bulldogs with six assists and Deanna Thompson with eight rebounds.

The Choctaws were lead by Kristen Sampson who had a game-high 20 points and three assists. Mississippi College shot 39.6% from the field and 20.0% in 3-pointers on the afternoon.Â
