JACKSON, Tenn.- The Union University men's basketball team lost to Shorter (Ga.) University 84-63. Union fell to 8-5 in Gulf South Conference play and 14-5 overall, while Shorter improved to 9-4 in conference and 14-5 on the season.

Going into the game there was a six-way tie for first place in the GSC standings with both Union and Shorter holding two of those spots.

Union kept the game close throughout the first half but eventually entered the locker room down 39-30. Union shot only 36.4% from the field compared to Shorter's 52.9% in the first 20 minutes of play.

After halftime Union started losing their grip on the game trailing by as many as 21 points to Shorter and ultimately lost the game by a 21-point margin. Union shot 33.3% from the field and 20.0% from behind the arc in the game, while the Hawks shot 52.2% from the field and 33.3% from 3-point range.

Union was led by
Ashanti Day who recorded 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Corieon Pearson,
Marterrace Brock, and
Jordan Montgomery each added 12 points to the Bulldog total.

Shorter was led by Travis Jones and Jordan Jacks with 22 points apiece, while Dedric Ware added 19. Jacks also lead the Hawks in rebounds with a game-high 16 on the night.
