ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Union University volleyball team started slow but finished the weekend strong to go 2-2 in the Henderson State University Classic. Union lost 3-0 to both Southeastern Oklahoma State University and the University of Central Oklahoma Friday. Saturday was a different story as Union defeated Fort Hayes State (Kan.) University 3-2 and then knocked off host Henderson State University 3-0.
A pair of sophomores led the way over the weekend with
Deja Moorer recording a 40 kills in the four matches. Hanna Huguley added 30 kills in the four matches. Junior
Kristin Cook tallied 29 kills and
Abbey Wainwright added 21 kills.
Lydia Wright dished out 106 assists in the four matches. Three different players recorded three aces over the weekend including Cook,
Courtney Masters, and Huguley.
Elise Seufert led the way with 67 digs. Cook led with way with 10 blocks, while Moorer added nine blocks and
Mallory Baker had seven blocks.
Up next for Union will be another road match as the Lady Bulldogs open Gulf South Conference play at Alabama Huntsville Tuesday, September 9. Their hope opener will be Friday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. versus West Alabama.
