Union volleyball falls 3-0 at Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Union University volleyball lost in straight sets Friday night at Valdosta State University 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-15). Union dropped to 3-5 on the season and 1-3 in the Gulf South Conference. Valdosta State improved to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in league play.
 
Union led once in the first set and tied the set four times, could never get control in a 25-20 loss. Union trailed by as many as seven points, 19-12, before cutting the deficit to 22-19. In the second set, Union tied the score at 1-1 but never led in the set. Valdosta State jumped out to a 20-9 lead before winning 25-17. In the third set, Union led for the only time at 3-2 before Valdosta State dominated the rest of the set winning 25-15.
 
Union was led by Deja Moorer with 13 kills, the only Lady Bulldog in double figures. Lydia Wright recorded 25 assists along with Elise Seufert led with seven digs. Kristin Cook led with two aces and two blocks.
 
Valdosta State was led by Lea Jaklen with 4 kills. Jessica Codato added 35 assists and was one of four Blazers with one ace. Ashley Lala led with 17 digs and Destiny Berry led with six blocks.
 
Valdosta State was in charge at the net, leading in total kills 41-34 and total blocks 14-4. Union committed 17 attack errors.
 
Union continues their road trip with a Saturday afternoon match at No. 18 and GSC leader West Florida, who sits at a perfect 10-0 (4-0) on the season.
