Union basketball drops two at Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Union University men's and women's basketball teams lost at conference foe Lee University Saturday afternoon. It was the first time since Jan. 18 at Delta State (Miss.) that both teams lost on the same night.

In the women's game, Union led 27-23 at the half, before falling 70-65. Union held their last lead of 49-47 with 8:22 left in the game. The game featured nine ties and nine lead changes. Union was led by Astrid Huttemann with 18 points. Amy Philamlee scored 18 points, while Amber Rechis added 10 points. Union shot 47 percent from the field, 32 percent (7-22) from long range,a nd 53 percent (10-19) from the free throw line. Lee was led by Hollie German with 26 points. Lee shot only 37 percent from the field, but outrebounded Union 45-31, including 15-4 offensively. Second chance points favored Lee 21-6.

In the men's game, Union lost 75-63 after trailing 38-34 at the half. Union led by as many as four points several times in the first half and once in the second half, 42-38. Union opened the second half with eight straight points from Corieon Pearson, including a pair of 3-pointers to put Union on top. Their last lead of the game came 49-47 with 12:52 left. The 12 point deficit at the buzzer was the largest lead of the game for Lee. Union was led by Pearson with 23 points. AJ Roberts added 12 points and Roy Bullock scored 11 points. Lee put five players in double figures led by Corey Billingsley with 16 points. Union shot 34 percent from the field, 26 percent (7-27) form long range, and 83 percent (10-12) from the free throw line. Lee shot 47 percent from the field, 41 percent (7-17) from 3-point range, and 64 percent (14-22) from the line.

Up next for Union will be the third of four straight road games. Union plays at West Florida Thursday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. for the women, and 8 p.m. for the men.
