JACKSON, Tenn.- The Union University women's soccer team dropped conference game to the University of Alabama in Huntsville 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Union fell to 2-6 on the regular season and 0-4 in Gulf South Conference play, while Alabama Huntsville improved to 4-6 in the regular season and 3-3 in conference play.
Alabama Huntsville took the first lead of the game in the 21
st minute when Maddie Maurice on shot from the corner of the 18 yard box. Melody Dodd earned the assist on the play.
Union was able to tie the match up at 1-1 when
Shelby High was able to put a shot just over the goalkeeper on a long shot from outside of the box in the 42
nd minute. The two teams went into halftime tied.
Alabama Huntsville scored the winning goal in the 57
th minute of play when Alexcia Alexander netted a long shot from the corner of the field off of the left post and into the back of the net.
Union was lead by
Elizabeth Clark with four shots;
Kayleigh Patterson and
Kelsey Wilkes also had three shots each. Freshman goalkeeper
Kristen Francis had 5 saves on the day.
Union will try to end their four match losing skid in a road conference game where they will face Mississippi College on Friday, October 10
th, at 1:00 p.m. Union will then travel to Delta State on Sunday, October 12
th, at 1:30 p.m.
