Union men fall to Alabama Huntsville 63-55

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University men's basketball team lost a home contest 63-55 to the University of Alabama in Huntsville Thursday night. Union dropped to 8-7 on the season and 4-5 in the Gulf South Conference. Alabama Huntsville improved to 9-7 overall and 5-4 in league play.
 
Neither team shot particularly well in the game with Alabama Huntsville hitting 41 percent of their shots, while Union was at 38 percent shooting. Both teams managed 30 percent shooting from behind the arc, 8-of-26 for Alabama Huntsville and 9-of-30 for Union. The game featured nine ties and 11 lead changes.
 
Union started the game with a 3-pointer from Pedro Faller. Alabama Huntsville answered with back-to-back 3-pointers from Greg Gardner. The Chargers jumped out to a 10-5 lead, before Union rallied to tie the game at 12-12. The teams went back and forth for the entire first half, with Union holding their largest lead at three points, 20-17 and again 23-20 following a pair of 3-pointers from Felipe Rocha and Faller. Union held a 27-25 lead at the break.
 
Union led by as many as three points again in the second half, 41-38, with 12:05 left in the game. However, the Chargers took control with a 19-6 run to take their largest lead of the game, 57-47, with 5:00 left. Union pulled to within six points with 1:25 left, but Huntsville was 4-of-4 from the free throw line in the final minute to seal the win.
 
Union was led by Corieon Pearson and Roy Bullock with 12 points. Pearson has reached double-figures in all 15 games for Union this season. AJ Roberts added 10 points. Union shot 80 percent (4-5) from the free throw line.
 
Alabama Huntsville was led by Wayne Dedrick with 15 points. Conner Blasi added 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Seab Webster scored 10 points. The Chargers shot 70 percent (7-10) from the free throw line.
 
Up next for Union will be the second of four straight home game, Saturday at 4 p.m. versus West Alabama.
