JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University men's and women's basketball teams will play in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) MidEast Region Tournaments this week. Union is in year-2 candidacy of the NCAA DII membership process and will not be allowed to participate in the Gulf South Conference or NCAA postseason tournaments.
Union's women finished the regular season 18-8 overall and tied for the best record in the Gulf South Conference with a 13-5 league mark. Union opens play in the NCCAA MidEast Region Tournament in Bluefield, Va. Thursday at 4:00 p.m. central time versus Tennessee Temple. Should Union win this game, the Lady Bulldogs will advance to the championship game played Friday, March 8 at 6:00 p.m. central time. The Union men finished the regular season 8-18 overall and 6-12 in the Gulf South Conference. After a slow start to the season with a 3-13 mark, Union was 5-5 in the final 10 games, including winning five straight homes games to close out the year. During that stretch, Union posted wins over the second, third and fourth place teams in the Gulf South Conference, including a win over No. 24 North Alabama. Union also nearly upset the No. 6 team and Gulf South champion Alabama-Huntsville in a five point loss at UAH. Union opens play in the NCCAA MidEast Region Tournament Friday, March 8 at 7:00 p.m. versus the winner of host Tennessee Temple University and Victory University in Chattanooga. If Union wins that game, the Bulldogs will advance to the region championship game Saturday, March 9 at 1:00 p.m. central time. The championship game will be broadcast on 93.1 FM and online at
