Union women earn fifth straight win, 62-47 at West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga.. – The Union University women's basketball team posted a 62-47 win at the University of West Georgia Friday night. Union improved to 8-1 on the season and 3-0 in the Gulf South Conference. West Georgia dropped to 2-7 overall and 0-3 in league play.
 
The win for was the fifth straight victory on the season.
 
A 3-pointer started the game for West Georgia, helping push the Wolves to a 9-2 lead. West Georgia led by as many as eight points in the first half, 25-17. However, Union rallied and tied the game at 25-25 and again at 27-27 at halftime.
 
In the second half, it was Union starting with a pair of 3-pointer. Amber Rechis and Astrid Huttemann drained 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions to give Union their first lead of the game. West Georgia tied the game one final time at 33-33 at the 17:53 mark. Union then went on a 9-0 run and never looked back. Union led by as many as 16 points in the game before taking the 62-47 final.
 
Union was led by Amy Philamlee with 18 points. Huttemann added 11 points and LaTesa McLaughlin added 10 points and a game-high seven assists. Union shot 41 percent from the field, 44 percent (8-18) from behind the arc, and 67 percent (12-18) from the free throw line.
 
West Georgia was led by Marion Lemonnier with 11 points and Seandra Lee with 10 points. Angela Davis added 10 rebounds. The Wolves shot 36 percent from the field, 33 percent (5-15) from long range, and 67 percent (8-12) from the free throw line.
 
Union is off until January 6 when the Lee (Tenn) University comes to Jackson.
