Union men take loss at West Georgia, 84-60

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Union University men's basketball team dropped a road conference game at the University of West Georgia 84-60. Union fell to 5-4 on the season and 1-2 in the Gulf South Conference. West Georgia improved to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in league play.
 
Union started strong with back-to-back 3-pointers to open play. Corieon Pearson and Pedro Faller put Union up 6-0. Union held the lead for most of the first half. However, West Georgia came alive in the final five minutes of the first half. The Wolves caught Union and tied the game at 23-23. West Georgia then hit three 3-pointers in the final four minutes of play, closing out the half on a 14-4 run to take a 37-27 halftime lead.
 
Union stayed close for a while, cutting the deficit down to as close as five points, 44-39 with 14 minutes left to play. However, West Georgia's hot shooting was too much down the stretch. West Georgia led by as many as 24 points twice in the half, including the 84-60 final. West Georgia shot 56 percent from the field in the second half, including 58 percent (7-12) from 3-point range.
 
Union was led by Pearson with 22 points, including four 3-pointers. Roy Bullock added 15 points and Faller scored 10 points. Union shot 33 percent from the field, 38 percent (8-21) from long range, and 78 percent (14-18) from the free throw line.
 
West Georgia was led by Deonta Stocks with 23 points and Phillip Flowers with 20 points. Zach Taulien added 12 points and Lavon Gray scored 11 points. The Wolves shot 45 percent from the field, 54 percent (14-26) from behind the arc, and 67 percent (14-21) from the free throw line.
 
Union is off until January 6 when the Bulldogs host Lee (Tenn.) University.
