JACKSON, Tenn. – Playing to keep their season alive the Union University women's soccer team took a 2-0 win over Bluefield (Va.) College Saturday afternoon. The Lady Bulldogs move into an NCCAA MidEast Region semifinal match against Lee University slated for Nov. 22 in Cleveland, Tenn. The victory improves Union to 7-6-3. Bluefield ends their season 9-9-1.
Dionna Linn got the match started in a positive fashion for the Lady Bulldogs. Linn took a free kick and bent the ball into the right corner of the goal to put Union in front 1-0 a little more than six minutes into the contest.
Alex Taylor was awarded a penalty kick at 32:11. The shot from Taylor was gathered in by Kayla Richardson. Union clung to the 1-0 halftime score, in spite of a 15-0 advantage in first half shots.
In the second half Union continued to pepper shots that tested Robertson, the Bluefield goalkeeper. Playing underneath a pesky drizzle that began at 57:37, Union persevered.
Kelsey Wilkes, who had a game high seven shots was rewarded for her aggressiveness. Wilkes knocked home a ball from
Emily Crane at 86:35 to provide Union with a much needed insurance goal to preserve the 2-0 win.
Union outshot Bluefield 23-4. The 23 shots ties a season high for Union, also reached Sept. 25 against North Alabama. The goal by Linn gives her 12 for her career.
For the second consecutive season, Union has stopped the season for Bluefield. The Lady Bulldogs won Nov. 12, 2012 at Bluefield 2-0 with seniors

Union will play next Friday at Lee University at a time to be determined. Lee (12-3-1) is 7-0 at home this season. The Flames have outscored their opponents at home 24-1. Lee has scored at least three goals in each home match this season. For first kick information check back throughout the week as the schedule is updated upon confirmation of start time.
