ROME, Ga. – The Union University women's soccer team posted a 3-2 double overtime win at Shorter University. Union improved to 6-5-3 on the season and 4-3-2 in the Gulf South Conference. Shorter dropped to 5-11 overall and 2-7 in league play.
Union led 2-0 at one point in the match, but allowed two late goals to Shorter in the span of 51 seconds of play to tie the match.
Senior
Dionna Linn scored a pair of goals, her first goals of the season, to give Union the 2-0 lead. Her first came just prior to halftime in the 43
rd minute play. The score remained 1-0 until Linn's second goal in the 80
th minute seemed to provided the insurance goal that Union needed.
However, at the 83:04 mark, Shorter's Mary Kate Loller scored on an assist from Tabea Kirchner. Then, just 51 seconds later, Shorter tied the match on a goal from Helena Farinha, assisted by Aline Tomiosso.

Kayleigh Patterson scored her team-high seventh goal of the season to give the Lady Bulldogs the conference win.

The shots were nearly even throughout the match. Union edged Shorter in shots 18-17 overall. Shorter had a 5-4 advantage in the first half, with Union holding an 11-10 advantage in the second half. Both team managed two shots each in the first over time, with Union taking the only shot in the second overtime.
Emily Waggoner earned eight saves in nearly 104 minutes of play for Union in net. Taylor Hays added three saves in the same time in net for Shorter.
Up next for Union will be the final home conference game of the season, Saturday, November 2 versus Alabama Huntsville at 5:00 p.m. The night will also be senior night for Union women's soccer.
