CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Union University women's soccer team dropped a road conference match at No. 21 Lee University Friday afternoon. Union dropped to 5-5-3 on the season and 3-3-2 in the Gulf South Conference. Lee, ranked No. 21 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, improved to 10-3-0 overall and 7-1-0 in league play.
Lee outshot Union 27-2 in the contest, posting 11 shots in the first half and 16 more in the second half. Union managed one shot each half.
Emily Waggoner, last week's NCCAA Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, recorded seven saves in the match. None of Union's shots were on goal, giving Haley Gribler ann uneventful night in goal for Lee.
Lee scored three times in the first half, including twice in the first 21 minutes. Kinsey Cichowitz scored in the eighth minutes and Sumer Lanter added a goal in the 21st minutes. Debbie Rogers assisted Lanter's goal. Daniel Ciabattone added a goal in the 41st minute to set the halftime score at 3-0. Just 35 seconds into the second half, Lee added their final goal when Leah Fortune took an assist from Ciabattone and found the back of the net.
Up next for Union will be another road conference game, October 27 at Shorter (Ga.).
