MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In women's soccer at Christian Brothers University on Friday evening, the home team preserved a 1-0 victory over Union University. Union dropped to 3-3-3 overall, 1-1-2 in Gulf South Conference play. Christian Brothers improved to 9-1-1 and 3-1 in the GSC.
A first half featuring little offensive action yielded a 0-0 halftime score. Christian Brothers posted seven shots in the opening frame. The three Union shots in the opening 45 minutes were all on goal.
After the intermission, the Lady Buccaneers took the lead at 49:36 when Alex Bickenbach put a pass from Katelyn Graham into the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage. Bickenbach booted the ball past
Emily Waggoner, the Union goalkeeper. Waggoner was charging to grab the ball before it left the foot of Bickenbach. Christian Brothers had 12 shots in the second half.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action at the Smith Memorial Soccer Complex at 2:00 p.m., October 13 against Delta (Miss.) State University. The Statesmen earned their first Gulf South Conference win of the season at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Friday night 2-1 to go to 3-6-1 overall, 1-2-1 in GSC games.
