Union drops double-header at Shorter

ROME, Ga. - The Union University basketball teams lost a pair of games at Shorter University, falling 64-63 in the women's game, and 74-68 in men's action.

This marked the first time Union basketball had lost both games of a double-header since January 6, 2007 at Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University.

Union's women (10-5, 5-2 GSC) lost when Shorter sank a 3-pointer with four seconds left to earn the win. Shorter jumped out to an 11-0 lead to start the game, before Union rallied to take a lead of as many as seven points. Shorter fought back and held at 29-28 lead at the half. In the second half, Shoter again jumped out by as many as 11 points, before Union rallied. Union took their largest lead of the second half, 63-61, with 16 seconds left on a basket from Amy Philamlee. Philamlee led Union with 18 points.

On the men's side, Union trailed by two at the half, 38-36. The Bulldogs kept the pressure up and with eight minutes left, Union led by five points, 56-51. However, Shorter outscored Union 23-12 over the final eight minutes to get the win. Union was led by Anthony Freeman, Jr. with 20 points.
