Ouachita Baptist rallies late to edge Union 64-60

JESSIEVILLE, Ark. – The Union University women's basketball team fell 64-60 to Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) University in the Hot Springs Village Classic. Union led nearly 33 minutes in the game before Ouachita Baptist rallied and took their first lead. Union dropped to 1-2 on the season, while Ouachita Baptist improved to 1-1.
 
Union led for the entire first half and most of the second half. At the 7:01 mark, Ouachita Baptist's Monica Williams completed a 3-point play to tie the game at 48-48. The Tigers took their first lead 30 seconds later on a jumper form Kendra Coyle. Union led by as many as 12 points in the game. That came 43-31 with 13:04 left in the game. Over the next six minutes, Ouachita Baptist posted a 17-5 run to tie the game. Over the final 13 minutes of play, Union was outscored 33-17 to rally for the win.
 
Union entered the game shooting 37 percent from the field, averaged 10 made 3-pointers over the first two games. However, Union managed just 3-of-21 from beyond the arc for 14 percent.
 
Union was led by Shelby Ashcraft with 17 points. LaTesa McLaughlin added 14 points and Amy Philamlee scored 11 points. Union shot 38 percent from the field and 62 percent (13-21) from the free throw line.
 
Ouachita Baptist was led by Nashia James with 14 points and Monica Williams with 12 points. Six other Tigers scored in the contest. The Tigers shot 42 percent from the field, 29 percent (5-17) from 3-point range, and 74 percent (17-23) from the free throw line.
 
Up next for Union will be two games in the Drury (Mo.) University Classic in Springfield, Mo. Friday and Saturday, November 23-24.
