Clay Mallard

Clay Mallard was hired in July of 2016 as head coach for the Union University Bulldog and Lady Bulldog golf programs. 

In his first year as head coach, Mallard lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 6th place finish in the Gulf South Conference Tournament. 

Mallard played golf at Union from 2007 through 2010 where he helped Union to three TranSouth Conference Titles and one appearance in the NAIA National Championships. He was the TranSouth Conference Medalist and was named TranSouth Golfer of the Year in 2008 and 2010. Mallard was named all-conference twice, all-region once. Mallard played in 37 tournaments while at Union. He had a 76 scoring average with a best round of 68. He won four tournaments at Union. He was team captain as a junior and senior.

After graduating from Union in May of 2011 with a degree in Athletic Training, he worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer with the University of South Carolina, Brookland Cayce High School and Irmo High School. Mallard earned teaching assistant experience in the classroom with the University of South Carolina and the USC School of Medicine. He graduated from South Carolina in 2013 with a master's degree in athletic training. He returned to west Tennessee and worked for a year at Sports Plus Rehab Centers as an athletic trainer for Milan High School and Delta Faucet. In 2014, he was hired by Dynamix Physical Therapy in Milan where he served as the Director of Sports Medicine and Head Athletic Trainer. 

Mallard has numerous certifications and licenses including Tennessee Licensed Athletic Trainer, Titleist Performance Institute Certified, Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers, GRASTON Certified, American Red Cross certifications for infant, child, and adult CPR and first aid. 

Mallard has taught golf locally since 2014 and has run a 4-day summer camp since 2014. He is on the board at the Milan Golf and Country Club. He turned professional in 2012 and played in two Monday qualifiers. 

Mallard said, "It is a privilege and honor to be able to come back to my alma mater and be able to coach. Words can not describe how excited I am for this opportunity. As a whole, both men's and women's programs, we have a lot of work to do. As a coach, I am going to do everything I can to give my athletes the best chance for them to be successful and I expect them to give me their best everyday as well. It's going to take a lot of hard work from the players and myself   as a coach but it's a journey that I am ready to begin with them."

Mallard is a native of Milan, Tenn. and graduated from Milan High School in 2006 where he was a three sport athlete in golf, football and baseball. He is the son of Alan and Lacee Mallard. He currently lives in Milan with his wife Jarron and son Payton.
