Basia Brown named Union volleyball assistant coach in March 2025.
JACKSON, Tenn. - Union University volleyball head coach
Kristen Blackburn has announced that Basia Brown will be the next assistant coach for the volleyball program. Brown comes to Union after spending the last two seasons as head coach at Hannibal-LaGrange University in Missouri.
Blackburn said, "I am very excited to have Basia join our staff. She has brought a ton of energy, experience, and passion to the court and office. From day one, she has emphasized building relationships with me and the athletes. That is a pillar of our program. I am excited for her future here and all she will help us accomplish."
In addition to her two seasons as head coach, Brown has coached at the club level for three seasons. She led the Club Four 17-Select from 2023-24 and the Arkansas Volleyball Academy 13s and 15s from 2021-23.Â
Brown said, "The opportunity at UU stuck out to me in a spiritual way. Being able to join an excelling program with the mission of a Christ-centered and people-focused institution is exciting in every aspect."
Brown is a 2023 graduate of Philander Smith University with a degree in elementary education. She played outside hitter at Philander Smith and helped lead her team to the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championship in 2022. Brown was named GCAC Athletic Honor Roll and was selected as the honorable mentioned player of the year in 2021.
Brown graduated from Jacksonville High School in 2019. She was the captain of her high school team and posted the most kills at the school since the 2007 season. Brown was named all-state, received the Titan Athlete Award, and was named the Jacksonville Player of the Year.Â
Brown is the daughter of Keisha Harris.Â
