JACKSON, Tenn. – Over the weekend the Union Volleyball team traveled to Rolla, Missouri to take part in the Missouri S&T Classic. During the tournament the Lady Bulldogs faced off against Kentucky Wesleyan, Missouri S&T, Lake Superior State, and Emporia State. They obtained their first victory of the season (Coach Blackburn's first career victory as Head Coach) over Kentucky Wesleyan (3-0) Friday morning. Union would go on to finish the Missouri S&T Classic with a 1-3 record following hard fought losses to Missouri S&T (3-2), Lake Superior State (3-0), and Emporia State (3-0).
In the victory over Kentucky Wesleyan (3-1), the Lady Bulldogs outhit their opponents .192 to .148. Union totaled 41 kills,13 aces, 9 blocks, 38 assist, and 45 digs.
Sydney Whittaker led the Lady Bulldogs in kills (9) and led the entire match in blocks (3).
Hope Harrington managed to record a match-leading three aces.
Gracie Tacker paced the Lady Bulldogs with 33 assist and
Davey Slaughter tallied a match-leading 16 digs.
Other notable performances from the weekend include an impressive outing from
Reese Owens in a hard fought five set match versus Missouri S&T where she totaled 13 kills, 15 digs, and an ace.
Hope Harrington also ended the match with an impressive 5 blocks as the Lady Bulldogs went wire to wire with Missouri S&T on their home court.
Up next for the Lady Bulldogs is the Reddie – Tiger Invitational in Arkadelphia, Arkansas next weekend. Union will hold their Home Opener Tuesday, September 29
th versus Christian Brothers.
