Union women's cross country opens season with top-10 at Memphis Twilight

MEMPHIS - The Union University women's cross country team posted a tenth place finish at the City Auto Memphis Twilight Cross Country Classic. The event took place at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex on the campus of the University of Memphis and featured 21 teams and 181 runners. 

Union was the fourth best NCAA D2 team in the top-10 with the other six being D1 schools. Middle Tennessee State won the event with Alabama in second, Ole Miss third, Arkansas Tech fourth, Memphis fifth, Ouachita Baptist sixth, Memphis Unattached seventh, Harding eighth, Arkansas State ninth and Union tenth. 

Union freshman Victoria Markham led Union with a 31st place finish with a time of 19:19 in the 5K event. Middle Tennessee's Faith Nyathl won the event with a 17:05. Sophomore Ayla Young finished 38th with a time of 19:30. Addi Aguayo finished 48th (19:34), Mary Scott Tritt 82nd (20:20), Sydnee Meadows 90th (20:30), Lindsey Dismuke 120th (22:08), Holly Blackwood 134th (22:55), and Camille Hass 139th (23:25). 

Up next for Union is a return trip to the city of Memphis, this time for a race at Shelby Farms for the Rhodes College Invitational, September 17 at 8 a.m.
