JACKSON, Tenn. - Union University students, faculty, and staff, including the sports teams, spent part of the day Tuesday, November 3 serving the community as a part of the Annual Campus and Community Day: A Day of Remembrance and Service.

Union baseball head coach Jim Pitt said, "This is the second year we've participated at a local high school to help with landscaping. We have enjoyed getting to know the staff and helping maintain the landscaping around the school. We are grateful to be able to have our baseball team give back to the community of Jackson in this way."

The campus joined together to complete 46 different service projects around the city and campus. This year marked the 18th year for Union to participate in this event. On this one day each November, Union takes the day off from classes to give back to the community as a way to remember God's protection over the campus during three tornadoes (2002, 2003, and 2008).

Union men's basketball assistant coach Easton Bazzoli said, "Our team was excited to go and help out a couple of widows in the Union/Jackson community. We were able to mow some lawns, fix flower beds, trim bushes, and fill several other outdoor needs for these great women. Our team felt a great joy in helping them out and recognized the need and opportunity that it was. With guys on the team that this could hit home with, there was an extra amount of energy and joy in the group this year in helping out and getting the work done."

All 11 Union sports teams participated in service projects around the community.
